Courtesy and politeness?

We have to be living in the end times-for a variety of reasons. One of them is the seeming lack of courtesy and manners in our society. We went to our local fireworks display last night and it was a great improvement over last year with a couple of exceptions. The Bible says that in the last days mankind will be lovers of their own selves and boy was that on display last night.

My son wanted to play in one of the "bouncy" houses-you know the very large inflatable jumping things. So I went over and stood in line with him. The attendant was an oblivious teen or young adult. She didn't move the line along at all. One of the dads behind me went up to her and asked why the line wasn't moving and she told him that she allows the kids to bounce until they get tired and then move a new group in. Right. My son could bounce in one of those things for a good half hour if allowed. The real problem however were the kids trying to cut in line right in front of myself and my son. And their PARENTS TOLD THEM TO DO IT!!!!! Needless to say they got sent to the back of the line and I got a lot of dirty looks. What kind of society are we living in that PARENTS think that it's ok to tell their kid(s) to cut in line in front of other kids?

At the end of the fireworks when the lights came up, people just walked off and left their trash on the ground. I not just talking things that animals will scavenge like popcorn but cups, lids, bags etc. The place was a pigsty. An incredible lack of respect for others. Again, kids get a bad message- that it's ok to leave stuff around because someone else is going to pick it up. It wasn't like there weren't a bunch of really large trash cans around but it did require effort to take your own trash over there and dispose of it.

The parking lot. Ugh. You know if one car let one other person out in front of them, you know courtesy and manners again, it wouldn't have been a jammed up free for all. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as last year as the city had set up a continuous right turn lane out of the facility but it was still badder than it needed to be.

Not even Christians are immune from this. My mom has had the opportunity to drive on a small Christian university campus as have I and the students are just a little self centered about crossing traffic shall we say. Our churches are having fights over the music. Those who are older who don't like a steady diet of just praise music are being told too bad-it's all about the youth and getting them to church. At least that's what they were told in my parents church-basically you don't like the music find another church. Where is the mutual respect here? Why shouldn't our youth have to learn and appreciate some of the classic hymns of the faith? Why can't it be both praise music and traditional hymns?

just my musings for now.

jib,
How true it is! I was McDonald's today on my way through Connecticut and was standing behind two other people. This boy about 8 y.o. walked right by us up to the counter and said "Excuse me!" (I guess he figured it was okay to cut the line because he said "Excuse me"!) He ordered a dollar sandwich, which came to $1.05, and handed the girl a dollar. The mom was at the back of the line and said "why didn't you get the (more expensive sandwich)?" Nothing about "Why did you cut in front of those people?" or "Did you have enough money?", but "Why didn't you try to get more than what you are owed?" Every day I see this kind of behavior and it appauls me. I just shake my head and say "How much worse can it get, Lord?"

Jib,
Courtesy? If my Grandparents were still alive, they'd say, that most people can't spell it, much less put it into practice :( A sad commentary on the world's condition. But, also just another part of prophecy coming to pass, with 'poeple being lovers of themselves, and not lovers of God.' At least the Unbelievers.

I'm hoping that your niece's hands are healing with each passing day, and that she's also enjoying the summertime! I love to watch the little ones out playing in the sun, and such :) It 'almost' makes me feel young again, just to watch them play! (that's almost :)

How are things going with you? I can't remember if you're on vacation now, or not :( What's the saying about the memory being the first thing to go? LOL. Unfortunately, that's more truth than poetry!

Love ya, and God bless!

Jib,
I hope that you can find out what is wrong today, at the Doctor's appt.
And that is somewhat of a miracle, getting in to see a Doctor, on such short notice.

Yes, on the 23rd of July, Mike goes in to have the endarterectony done. Plus, it's going to be done in Seattle, which is a good 35 miles away from our home. Needless to say, I'll be happy when it's over and done. I'm not much of a Nurse, anyways :) But, do I EVER respect those with that gifting!

It's unfortunate that Kinderquilt has been hurt. You, too. But, maybe with prayer, and a little time, things will still fall back into place. I'm hopeful, for God to work it out. After all, He's still God, and He can touch a person's heart, like none other, right?

I'm also agreeing with you, in prayer, that your Doctor will find out the problems, and you'll soon be on your way back to health and healing! God IS a good God, and His goodness He will show to you!
(have I mentioned these are 'ripped off, lyrics from Oral Robert's song, he used to sing, called God Is a Good God? In the 50's he said that, and the Church world, as a whole, had a fit :)

Love ya, and God's best for you, and yours, too!

Jib, We actually live in Ukraine. On the courtesy thing, we also see a change coming here. We often get passed by in lineups, but that is because we did not know that one must line up at an angle, not straight back. The lack of courtesy comes primarily from the new rich who believe that they are better, or have a sense of entitlement.

I think that the biggest problem is a combination of instant gratification and a loss of the fear of God. I know many Christians who are slaves to their desires, because they are completely incapable of waiting. I know that most of their spiritual meals are snack food as well. Most of the popular devotional books are a short story, a verse, a connection comment, and then on with life. It is hard to find people, or pastors that feast on the word.

gotta grab something to eat and run. bye

I hope you are feeling better! Let us know how you're feeling, okay?

Much love, and God's best to you!

Jib,

Truly a wonderful blessing when someone comes along and did what you did. In the 4 years of taking on this ministry, we are constantly shown the workings of God, and you did that again. Thank you.

We will put your support to good use and it is always welcome. Our organization is 100% volunteer. We have about 20 volunteer leaders (brother Dave being one of them) and end up with a little over 300 volunteers for the day. The guy that I started this with, Paul, and I carry the burden of fundraising and as always, the Lord has provided. Keep praying for good weather on September 15th, for the upgrades to the facility to be completed on time (a sore subject for us right now), and most importantly that someone's life is changed for Christ as a result of this year's Awakening. That's what makes all our efforts worth it.

I could go on, but have to get to a meeting. So thanks again, and look for a letter in the mail in the near future.

Mike

By the way, regarding your post: No kidding! And then the parents wonder why their kids act the way that they do. Are we allowed to put a 40 year old parent over our knee, because that's who need to get whoopin'.

I my friend,
How are you? I know I've been away a loooooong time...I had surgery on my knee two weeks ago and haven't been able to sit at the computer for too long. I'm okay, but the PT is torture! I'll be okay in a few weeks...so next spring in Israel I'll be able to hike for miles! Well, that's the plan, anyway ;) Yes, I know where Kinderhook is...that's not too far from us. Thanks for thinking of me! How is you brother's family? I pray they are being touched by God. Well, I have to go to Joel's to leave a little message to let certain confused people know that I am still Kinderquilt. Talk to you soon. I love you, JIB!
