Recently I received the book "50 things that really matter" for my birthday. It is a collection of stories and sayings on things such as work, wisdom, memories etc. When I first opened the book it opened to the section on faith and I'd like to share that with you, as well as my musings on the matter.
"There's an old story about Jeb and the flood that tells us something important about faith. Old Jeb was trapped on his roof as the flood waters were rising around his house. As he sat there, a neighbor passed by in his rowboat, offering to take him to higher ground.
"Don't worry about me," said Jeb. "I have faith: The Lord will protect me."
A while later, the flood waters still rising, a rescue squad arrived in a power boat and ordered Jeb to evacuate.
"No need, " Jeb insisted. "My faith is strong. I'll be fine."
A few hours later, when the waters reached the eaves, a National Guard helicopter hovered overhead and lowered a line. But Jeb wouldn't grab hold.
"The Lord will provide," he said.
Not too long after, Jeb's house went under, and Jeb with it. When he arrived at the pearly gates, he was none too please.
"Lord, I had such faith in you!" Jeb cried. "How could you have abandoned me?"
"Abandoned you?"replied the Lord. "What are you talking about? I sent you a rowboat, a powerboat, and a helicopter!"
Like may of us, Jeb had great faith, but it was a faith built only upon miracles that come with flashes of light and trumpet blasts. In truth, God often responds to our faith in humbler ways. It might be a kind driver who lets us merge when we're stressed from sitting in heavy traffic. Or it could be a newspaper article that describes a support group we desperately need. Or perhaps it comes in a song on the radio that brings us a cherished, fortifying memory."
How true that is. We look for the big flashes when we should have faith for the small stuff on a daily basis. We expect our prayers and our faith to be rewarded in big ways instead of the small and perhaps mundane. I would add to that list above-a blog or blog post that blesses you. the small hand of my son, nestled in mine, as we walk in dangerous areas. My husband who does so much. A card received when having a bad day. For me, my husband and son are tangible reminders of God's blessings. I had tried to force God's hand for a husband. It wasn't until I stopped trying, that God blessed me with a husband who exceeded my dreams. We had difficulty getting pregnant-not as much as some but still traumatic enough. When we finally got pregnant, and when our son was finally here, he was so much more than I thought possible. Faith rewarded, that if God meant for me to be married I would be and the grace to accept that it might not be. Faith rewarded, that if God meant for me to have a child, I would and the grace to accept that it might not be. While these are big things, daily I am reminded in little things of the miracles around me. We just have to see with an open heart and mind.

Jib,
Bingo! We all have to see with an open heart and an open mind. Because if we don't do that? We often miss the 'supernatural,' because we're looking for the 'spectacular.' (or miracles)
I love the lyrics of a song, entitled, The Miracle. It goes something like this,......
"A miracle, a miracle, what kind would you like to see?
You just shook hands with a miracle, when you shook hands with me,......
Salavation is a miracle, in and of itself, right? Anyhow, I wanted to say that I LOVED your comments and story about Faith. That's probably THEE best illustration of Faith, I've ever heard, and it's always been one of my favorites, too.
Much love, and may God bless your Blog! Along with its readers!
jib,
I left a very loooong post on the last string...ooops! Love your post on faith, too! K
jib,
How are you, sister? Is everything going well with you? I just finished reading Joel's blog and things are looking pretty good these days. There are some great newbies there with a lot to share and learn. I also read Child's goodbye post. That was sad, but maybe for the best. Was Wilma referring to her when she posted a while back? Do you think it was Child who wrote that terrible post about you and Marge? I sure hope it wasn't her.
I haven't visited Wilma's blog lately, but Child mentioned that Wilma obliterated her blog, too. Is that true? If so, I give you my permission to give Wilma my email; that way, if she wants, she can talk to me. You can share it with Marge, too. I trust all of you :) You know, we can also do IM. We could set our accounts up so they only recognize each other's. Do you know about that?
I went today to fill out the rest of the paperwork for my new job. I am definately starting Monday (November 5). I'm very excited about it...I get a good feeling about that place. It will be different for me, though, because it will not be "sheltered" and I'll have opportunities to share my faith with non-believers. That scares me! It's easy to teach children about Jesus, but I am petrified to tell adults. I know that is not good, so if you could pray for me once in a while to have courage, I would greatly appreciate it! Well, I'm going over to marge's now and say hi. You can email me, if you want to respond. I check that more often than I get here. Blessings and hugs to you, Joyce. Love, Dorie
Jib,
I just went to Marge's site, but there was no place to click on to comment!!!! I'm illiterate when it comes to blogging (and computers in general), that's why my blog never changes. But, what did she do to make that happen and how can I leave her a message? K
Hi Jib
How have things have got out of control on Joel's site? I missed a couple of blogs and have been back the past 2 weeks or so and read some miserable posts! Not good.
I tried to go to Child's site but found it gone, as to some of the others. I tried yours and found you are up a running. I am too nervous to post personal stuff on Joel's site. Dave and others are not posting regularly. I wonder what happened to some of the older posters like Josh and the others?
Hope all is well with your family.
God Bless
jeri.
Jeri and Kinderqauilt
the last i knew Wilma hadn't obliterated her blog but had closed down the comments section. even though she didn't allow the mice to post and her blog is moderated as mine is people were sending her nasty stuff.
Jeri
I have tried not to post much in the way of personal info but I suspect someone with a lot of time on their hands could find stuff out. Wilma the last I knew hadn't shut down her site completely only the comment portion but i haven't looked at it in a couple of days or so as i have her email address. By the way you can post stuff on my site and if it is too personal and you don't want to posted for all to see such as email address etc it has to first come to my email before it is posted.
K (Dorie)
congrats to you. i know if you rest in God you'll do just fine. perhaps this will be a way of training to deal with adults in a business world? especially if you intend to incorporate anything of faith and God into your quilts in any kind of visible fashion.
Jeri
please feel free to post at my site anytime.
Dear Jib
Thanks for the kind words. It is very sad to see how flippant people have become on Joel’s blog. There still are some interesting things that come up but you have to go through so much to get to them! Kinderquilt and Marge are stars in remembering Ryan Hunter, I racked my few brain cells for days but could not come close. I tried going back but could not do that either, so gave up and asked the old regulars!
If you hear from Wilma, tell her she is missed. I was away this weekend and have been playing catch up again, what a job! There are some good comments from Boatman cutting Teresita down to size and I hope she will pull in her horns, as she gets very pushy and types before she thinks!
We should count our blessings and not grumble too much, at least we are not being persecuted, YET!! Keep praying for Jerusalem and Israel.
Have a fantastic week ahead.
Jeri.
Hi Marge
Just wanted to say keeping you in my prayers too. It is sad that you guys have had to shut down your blog sites.
How are the puppies, must be gone by now! The last I heard was that your son was keep 2, I hope they are ok.
Thanks Jib for letting us keep into contact somewhere! Until we sip Lattes at the Cafe, keep smiling!
Yours in Christ
jeri.
Jeri
good to hear from you.
yes things tend to be a little dicey at times at Joel's. I got a little disgusted at Teresita's response to me after I corrected her on her misquoting me. I thought it was juvenile quite frankly. I think most of the old "regulars" don't got there much because things have gotten out of hand. At home I have Ryan's blog site earmarked along with Press ie-if you remember he writes poetry. I can post them here for you if you like. I have left Ryan a couple of messaged but he hasn't responded. I got the impression he was still in school or something and didn't have a lot of time. I found AR's site after a great deal of work but she has nowhere to leave messages. Wish I knew how she was-I really miss both she and Ryan.
I noted LW hasn't been around lately after that mouse made caustic comments about him and not working. I really should try to track down an old post and see if I can leave a message for him.
Take care my friends.
Jeri,
My son did find a good home for one of the two puppies, and now just has the one. And yes! He's as big as his Momma now :) So, so cute!
Thanks for your prayers!
And may you have a blessed week, too!
Jeri
Hi fella! It is good seeing your name at Joel's and then JIB told me to come here to read your comments.
I really was and am distressed over the direction Joel's has taken of late but I am praying for all of them. Every so often I get the urge to restart my comments on my blog but I was the focus of some really dirty comments right after the big blow up at Joel's and it really set me up for my final tirade to Anonymous at Joel's. I felt that I had really disgraced my witness and testimony to the Lord so I pulled myself out of it.
As I was typing my comments this morning on Joel's new post I suddenly had a flash of revealing happen. Teresita seems to be putting up remarks that have no consistent framework of belief or theology. Then I thought she is just posting what other people have said in different situations and probably from different blogs completely. If not, she is one crazy, mixed up individual who needs all of our prayers. Right now my prayers are simple and to the point: Lord, save her, fill her or kill her! See! I told you I was still angry!
On a serious side, I recognize that it is God who is blessing and leading Joel and all of us to share and educate and encourage all who come our way. So I am praying for his protection and deliverance at the blog too. We have to deal with people like Terrorsita as K says but I don't have to take a shower with her! Thank God!
IN the meantime, I need your prayers too. I am learning that I have a lot of rough edges still left over from my heathen days and God wants to polish them off. It Hurts! They are hard to get rid of and some of them are even comfortable.
Take care and everyone on JIB's, have a blessed day and keep safe in His presence.
Love to all,
Wilma
Wilma,
Hey, we all have to continue to walk in the love of Jesus Christ, and continue to be washed with the Word of God. But, you know what?
God loves you, and SO DO I!
Hi JIB
Herewith Dave's e-mail address:daveschatology@yahoo.com
He sent lovely pictures, a very proud dad....Hahahahahahaha!
Hope all is well with you and have a happy and blessed Thanks Giving.
Cheers
jeri.
Hi Jib
Interesting topics coming up on Joel's blog, for a change! Hope you and your family are well. Have you heard from Kinderquilt? She has been very quiet for some time now. It sounds like your winter has arrived from what some have said on Joel's blog, hope it has missed you guys.
Lets see what Czar Putin does now that he has won the so-called elections.
Did you get hold of Dave?
Keep well and have a Christ filled day.
Cheers
jeri
JIB,
Thank you for leaving a note on my blog about the new gathering place! I actually stubbled upon it somewhere else and just now looked at my blog and saw your comment.
I do hope that it is not discovered by the ones we are trying to keep out!
Thank you for thinking of me!
Grace
Hi, Joyce!
Actually, everything is okay with me. A few weeks ago, I received an insight about faith that has changed the way I look at myself, my relationship with my Heavenly Father, and the world I live in. So my online activities have been limited to news and to certain blogs (but not the comments sections).
I'm still waiting and praying about the direction I'm going to be led and what the future holds. I made a very unexpected decision yesterday, and I'm not sure where this step will take me. So my focus has been on other things right now.
Thank you for asking about me. I may be back at Joel's and Mac's when things seem a little clearer.
